Do not request a pulp-line membrane keypad as simply “washdown resistant.” Define the service action first: dry fiber removal, damp wiping, or directed water exposure; name the cleaner and concentration; state frequency, contact time, glove type, and what the enclosure must seal. For the component quotation, control the overlay surface, raised-key geometry, perimeter adhesive landing, tail exit, and connector. An initial enquiry can start with a front photo, cleaning protocol, approximate size, and annual quantity. Any unknowns must remain labelled quotation assumptions. Approve a mounted sample against the buyer’s real cleaning method before releasing artwork, stack construction, and inspection criteria for production.
A current pulp-line HMI does not define a custom keypad specification
ABB's September 14 paperboard-mill success story describes a new recycled-fiber line that integrates drives, a PLC, power panels, and a PRO CP6610 HMI for monitoring and adjustment. It also explains that a system integrator handled component selection, panel assembly, programming, startup, and communication with existing equipment.
That is useful current context for one narrow sourcing point: the operator interface is only one part of a larger control system. The ABB story does not identify Baoshengda, describe a membrane keypad, disclose a cleaning protocol, or establish a universal sealing requirement. A custom front-panel RFQ therefore has to define its own component boundary instead of borrowing performance claims from the complete machine, enclosure, or control platform.
Describe the cleaning action instead of choosing a vague resistance label
“Wipe-clean,” “washable,” and “washdown” can describe very different exposure. A dry cloth used after fiber-dust removal does not challenge the same interfaces as a damp wipe held on a key edge. Directed water introduces pressure, angle, duration, and drainage questions that a front film alone cannot answer.

If the actual procedure is not yet frozen, select the closest known service action and mark the rest as assumptions. That produces a quotable scope without turning uncertainty into an unsupported promise.
Five interfaces change the membrane-keypad quotation
First, choose the overlay surface from the real contact and cleaning action. A smooth finish may wipe differently from a textured surface, while raised keys create edges that need deliberate inspection. The correct choice depends on the buyer's protocol and visual requirements, not a generic claim that one finish is always cleaner.
Second, show a continuous perimeter adhesive landing on the enclosure drawing. Screws in the metal box do not replace a flat, clean bonding land for the membrane assembly. Indicate holes, welds, bends, paint steps, recesses, and any surface discontinuity near that land.
Third, define key height, travel expectation, spacing, and glove condition. The sample needs to be operated after the cleaning sequence, not only while dry on a bench. Fourth, route the flexible tail away from a wet edge or debris path and state the connector position, bend direction, and available internal space. Fifth, identify which party owns any enclosure gasket, rear cover, cable gland, or PCB-side protection.
Keep enquiry inputs and quotation assumptions separate
A useful first enquiry does not require every production file. Send a straight-on front photo, approximate outer dimensions, the cleaning procedure, the expected environment, the existing connector or PCB interface if relevant, and estimated prototype and annual quantities. State whether the request is for a new panel, a component replacement, or an overlay-only change.
The supplier can then prepare a quotation using explicit assumptions for film, finish, colors, adhesive concept, circuit type, tail direction, connector, tooling, sample quantity, and commercial volume. Record each assumption on the drawing or quotation. A sample price based on a provisional enclosure surface or an unconfirmed cleaner is not a production-release approval.
Use the mounted sample to check the real failure paths
Mount the sample on a representative enclosure surface with the intended fasteners, cable routing, and internal connector position. Apply the actual dry-removal or damp-wipe sequence at the specified frequency and contact time. Inspect the outer edge, key perimeters, window boundary, tail exit, connector engagement, and any place where liquid or debris could migrate.
Operate every key with the stated glove after cleaning. Check key return and consistent tactile response without converting the exercise into an unsupported lifetime claim. Photograph the mounted condition and record the cleaner, dilution, wipe, sequence, ambient condition, sample revision, and observations. If directed water is required, the buyer or system owner should define and approve the complete-enclosure protocol.
Release one controlled component package for production
Production release should identify the approved artwork revision, dimensions and datum scheme, overlay material and finish, circuit stack, adhesive, key geometry, tail and connector, inspection points, packing protection, and accepted mounted sample. It should also identify the cleaning protocol used for approval and the exact boundary of the supplier's responsibility.
