Treat the request as artwork-only only when the active zones, circuit matrix, tail, connector, enclosure stack and software-state ownership remain unchanged. Freeze a redlined artwork file and an unchanged-item list, then prove the revised legends, windows and colors on an overlay sample before reusing the approved electrical build. If any key position, active area, status logic, backlighting mask, tail exit, pinout or stack dimension changes, reopen the affected electrical or mechanical scope and quote a controlled revision rather than relabeling the old part.
Classify every redline before asking for a revised price
A panel revision should begin with a comparison against the last approved drawing package, not with a new PDF attached to an email. Mark each difference as visual, electrical, mechanical or system-owned. One request may contain more than one class.
A visual-only change can include a new legend, language, nonfunctional color, printed border or opaque mask when the switch locations, light paths, windows, adhesive openings and material stack remain fixed. The overlay artwork changes, but the circuit tooling, tail and connector do not.
An electrical change includes a moved or added active zone, a different contact matrix, a changed LED or backlight circuit, new shielding, another pin assignment or a different connector. A mechanical change includes a modified outline, window, emboss height, adhesive landing, tail exit, spacer or enclosure datum. A system-owned change includes software labels, screen states, alarm logic, enabled functions and clinical workflow behavior.
Do not let a new key name hide an electrical question. If the renamed position still triggers the same input and the software owner remaps its meaning, the part may remain electrically unchanged. If the new workflow needs another independent input, a long press, a different backlight state or a hardware interlock, the electrical scope may need to reopen.
Why the current mobile C-arm news matters, and what it does not prove
A Siemens Healthineers release published on September 8, 2026 says Vuze guidance software has been incorporated into the Cios Spin mobile C-arm workflow and describes planned expansion to other mobile and robotic C-arm systems. For interface buyers, this is a useful reminder that software and workflow changes can reach an established physical device program.
The announcement does not say that the Cios Spin control panel changed. It does not identify a Baoshengda component, a membrane switch or the construction shown in this article. It is market context for a durable change-control problem: when a workflow changes, the sourcing team must establish which physical-interface files are affected instead of assuming that either everything changes or nothing changes.
That boundary matters commercially. An artwork-only revision may reuse approved electrical tooling. A circuit revision may require new tooling, samples, test fixtures and system checks. Quotations are not comparable until every supplier is pricing the same revision class.
Use three tests before calling the change artwork-only
First, compare active-zone geometry. Overlay both revisions on the same panel datum. The center, outline and usable press area of every key or sensor zone should be unchanged. Check display and indicator windows, opaque masks, embossed features, adhesive clearances and any dead-front graphics. A small printed shift can cover a light aperture or move a legend away from the actual active zone even when the circuit is unchanged.
Second, compare the electrical definition. Use the same circuit-side orientation for both revisions. Confirm the matrix, contact type, termination, pin-one reference, pin map, connector, tail width, stiffener, exposed contacts and continuity table. State which drawing proves each unchanged item. “Same as before” is not a controlled technical reference.
Third, compare the assembled stack. Confirm overlay and adhesive thickness, spacer height, backing support, window position, tail exit and enclosure compression. A new material, texture or adhesive can change actuation feel, light transmission, fit or cleaning behavior even when the artwork file looks similar.

Separate three sample approvals
Approve the overlay as a visual component first. Check the released color references, print registration, window clarity, opaque areas, surface defects and alignment to the panel datum. If the electrical build is reused, the sample record should say so and identify the approved circuit revision.
Approve the keypad or flexible interface second. Check outline, active-zone registration, circuit continuity, tail exit, bend keepout, stiffener, connector orientation and pin map. If only the overlay changed, compare the assembled part with the unchanged electrical baseline rather than repeating unrelated tests without a reason.
Approve the complete device behavior third. The system owner should verify screen states, enabled functions, alarms, workflow sequence, human-factors requirements and any safety-related behavior on representative equipment. A correct overlay sample does not prove that software maps the revised labels correctly. A continuity pass does not prove a clinical workflow or imaging function.
These approvals can share a sample build, but they need separate acceptance owners and records. That separation makes failures easier to diagnose and keeps a component supplier from being asked to certify software or clinical behavior it does not control.
Control the quotation boundary with an unchanged-item list
Send two documents together: a redline showing what changed and an unchanged-item list showing what remains released. The list should cover the front outline, active zones, windows, ink and material system, adhesive, circuit, tail, connector, pin map, backing and enclosure datum. For each item, name the drawing and revision.
Then ask the supplier to divide the quotation into any affected scopes. A useful quote can separate artwork preparation, print tooling, circuit tooling, mechanical tooling, material or adhesive change, sample build, dimensional inspection, continuity evidence, connector work and mounted-fit support. It should also state assumptions and excluded system tests.
This avoids two common errors. The first is paying for a complete electrical redesign when only controlled artwork changed. The second is reusing an old circuit price after a redline quietly moved a key, light mask or tail. Both errors begin with an incomplete change package rather than a manufacturing problem.
Revision control also matters after sample approval. Keep one released combination of overlay, circuit, tail and connector revisions. Do not allow an approved visual sample to be paired later with an unrecorded electrical revision under the same part number.
What a medical HMI supplier can review
A supplier of a custom medical-device HMI overlay and membrane keypad can review buyer-supplied overlay artwork, active-zone geometry, display and indicator windows, printed circuit, adhesive openings, tail, stiffener, contact side and specified connector. It can manufacture the released component and provide agreed visual, dimensional and continuity evidence. With a representative housing or controlled fixture, it can also support a defined fit and alignment check.
The component supplier does not automatically own the mobile C-arm software, surgical workflow, imaging performance, alarm strategy, electrical architecture, complete-system usability, clinical safety, cleaning or sterilization method, electromagnetic compatibility or regulatory clearance. Those boundaries require the responsible device teams, applicable requirements and separate validation.
A public software announcement cannot prove that a particular console needs a new panel. The buyer’s controlled redline, electrical comparison and system responsibility matrix decide that.
Drawing, sample and RFQ checklist
Before using the Request Quote page, prepare one controlled revision package:
- the last approved front artwork, circuit, tail, connector and assembly drawings with revision identifiers;
- a redlined new artwork file referenced to the same stable panel datum;
- an unchanged-item list covering active zones, circuit matrix, tail, connector, pin map and stack;
- display, indicator and light-mask geometry, including any dead-front appearance requirement;
- key centers, active areas, emboss or dome requirements and backing support conditions;
- material, surface texture, adhesive and thickness definitions, with changed items identified;
- tail exit, route corridor, first-bend keepout, stiffener, contact side, mating part and pin-one view;
- software-state and workflow ownership, including which visible labels map to unchanged inputs;
- separate visual-overlay, continuity-interface and complete-system acceptance methods and owners;
- prototype and production quantities, inspection records, required sample fixtures and target dates;
- the new part number or controlled revision rule that prevents mixed artwork and circuit builds.
This package lets a supplier state whether the request is artwork-only, an overlay-and-stack change or a full electrical revision. It also lets the buyer compare quotations without turning a current workflow announcement into an unsupported hardware claim.
